Green Thumb Sunday: Confirmation

Posted in Green Thumb Sunday, NaBloPoMo, Plants at 5:15 pm by trueepicure

I think Karen and Tina were right when they suggested that I found leaves from a Sycamore tree. The pup and I went on a scouting mission this afternoon, and found some more evidence in the natural area between the two subdivisions.

Green Thumb Sunday: Preparing for Next Season

I still don’t know what kind of tomato this was, but it sure was tasty. I’m saving the seeds for next year, so I can attempt them again.

Green Thumb Sunday: Ageratum

My Hardy Ageratum is blooming!
IMGP1709

I bought two of these last year, and this is the second bloom season since I purchased them. They are easy to propagate from cuttings, grow well in less than perfect soil (mucho clay in my yard), and are apparently a cultivated version of a local native. I’m really happy with this plant and I will definitely be taking cuttings before we move.

Green Thumb Sunday: Holly

“The holly bears a berry, as red as any blood…” but before it gets there, it’s green, and then brown. The holly outside our townhouse is currently very brown, but quite attractive.

I never would have planted this myself, but I’m enjoying watching

Green Thumb Sunday: ‘Black and Blue’

Posted in Green Thumb Sunday, Musings at 8:00 am by trueepicure

Salvia 'Black and Blue'

Commonly known as ‘Black and Blue’ Salvia, Salvia guaranitica is one of my favorite flowering plants. The color is striking, the leaves smell lovely (it is also known as Anise-scented Salvia), and it’s a hardy plant overall. When I lived in the low-desert of Arizona, my Salvia guaranitica was perennial and returned year after year. Now that I live in a more temperate area in Virginia, most likely I will have to depend on the plant reseeding itself.

Green Thumb Sunday: Nasturtium

Nasturtium

Nasturtiums are one of my most favorite plants. Easy to grow, pretty, and edible. You can’t really ask more than that!
