From the Whole Foods Blog, Whole Story:
Number 4 of 8 ways to celebrate the new year:
Set up a DIY Sparkling Drinks Bar: Stock up on sparkling wine (stop by the wine department and ask for a recommendation), sparkling cider and sparkling water too. Set up a bar where guests can tailor their own sparkling drink cocktails. Cut slices of citrus and set out a bowl of sugar for sugaring rims of glasses: Just rub a slice of cut orange, lemon or lime around the rim of the glass, then invert the rim into the sugar and twist the glass to coat the rim. Set out pitchers of juices, the more colorful, the better! Think pomegranate, cherry, pink grapefruit and blood orange. Set up a chalkboard or cover a table with brown paper for guests to write down their favorite combinations.
I think this is an awesome idea for any festive celebration. It makes me want to have a party, just because.

For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been very excited about the Marigold seedlings that popped up in my garden this year. As I was out in the yard watering early this morning, crowing over the multitude of little baby Marigolds, I noticed that the seedlings looked a little weird.
I squatted down on the ground and took a closer look…. Hmmmm… definitely odd. Let me rub the leaves… Sniff, sniff… HOLY CRAP! All those cherry tomatoes that dropped on the ground last year? Yep, I have about eleventy thousand TOMATO seedlings and not a single Marigold in sight! Anyone want some Sun Gold cherry tomato seedlings (or possibly Gold Rush currant tomatoes)?

This is what I’m planning to start now in 7A:
Indoors:
Artichoke
Basil
Broccoli (my plants from the fall still seem to be alive!!?)
Cucumber
Eggplant
Onion
Peppers
Transplant:
Leeks (I wonder if the ones from last fall are still alive?)
Direct Sow:
Arugula
Carrots
Fusilli pasta with grated zucchini, white bell pepper, and basil chiffonade. ‘Gold Rush’ currant tomatoes. Everything grown in our garden (except for the pasta and the garlic used to saute the zucchini/pepper mix). [Proud!]
Not the first Basil harvest, but the first significant harvest of the summer.

I love my garden!
Is here.
I think I could even make this with just the microwave (since we don’t have a working stove yet). Stay tuned.
