I’ve heard about Sundara’s Yarns from a couple of different blogs. Today I happened to read through some back posts of the Runcible Bin, where I was reminded how how beautiful Sundara’s yarn is. Sigh.
I think I want the Black over Peacock sock yarn more than I want the Wasabi sock yarn from ShiBui Knits, which is saying a lot. I need to start a list… if only Ravelry had a “Yarn Queue” for as of yet unpurchased yarn (and yes, I did request the feature).

With the exception of having to leave my Honey at the airport headed for Texas, today was a wonderful day.
I headed over to Stitch DC - Capitol Hill to return my defective Addi Lace Needles (they were part of the apparently funky first batch of ALN) after dropping Honey off, and arrived about 45 minutes before Stitch DC actually opens. I decided to see if I could find a magazine and a cup of coffee, so I proceeded walk over to Pennsylvania Avenue.
On Pennsylvania Avenue, I found Bread and Chocolate, which is a local chain, based in Alexandria VA. I missed Murky Coffee, right around the corner. I’ll have to try them next. And there definitely will be a next time.
I’ll be back to the Capitol Hill area again in the near future, not necessarily for the yarn, although I did purchase some new yarn that I didn’t need… well, they had AllHemp 6 (Hemp for Knitting) the pumpkin color that I’ve been wanting for a LONG time, and some lovely Kid Seta mohair yarn! Ooooooo… But the best part of the trip was the walk through the outdoor portion of Eastern Market. It was such a beautiful day - almost 60 degrees, gorgeous after some really frigid days here in the DC Area.
I didn’t buy any produce at the farmer’s market, but I found a great soap maker from Baltimore, Licopevel. I purchased a bar of cedar and sage soap that doesn’t contain any sodium laurel sulfate (or any of it’s cousins) or preservatives. I hope it lasts a while, because the soap is expensive at $4.50 a bar.
I went home for lunch, and did a couple more errands, including a trip to Borders to buy a couple of gifts. A few other books fell into my arms as well, including Michael Pollan’s In Defense of Food
.
Finally, I headed home for some quality time with the fur-kids and some much needed down time. A busy, but great day.

Our household keeps multiplying…
I just adopted this. Thanks to an enabler good friend of mine, I drove out to Louisa, Virginia, yesterday, to pick up my new beauty.
Oh Happy Day!

Almost a year to the day. Three froggings, two patterns, one time-out. Done!

After knitting two socks, I think I have enough of the same yarn to do another pair. Not sure what I’m going to do with the leftovers. I’ll probably make another pair of socks using a different pattern. For now, however, the yarn will go back in the stash. I just don’t think I want to use this yarn again for a while.

My first 20 rows of the Mystery Stole #3. An easy knit so far, even with the beads.

Knitted with White Zephyr, gifted by Bloggless(?) Kate. You can join up here until July 6th.

A picture of some of the loot I procured at MSDW.
Finally, I now own a Yarn Requirements pamphlet. It’s about darned time. Maybe now I will make some better judgements about how much yarn to buy at a time.
The red/orange yarn is 450 yards of baby Alpaca from The Fibre Company in Maine. They only sell retail at MSDW, so it made the purchase extra special. It is SO soft.
The green is 400 yards of superwash merino sock yarn from Spirit Trail Fiberworks. Lovely, green, VIRGINIA yarn!
The pattern is The Incredible Circular Rectangular Mitered Scarf from Strickwear. I purchased it at the Just Our Yarn booth in the main barn. They had lots of beautiful yarn, but I was trying to keep to a budget. They’re also local to Virginia, Falls Church to be exact, so I’ll be contacting them at some point in the future. The only bummer is that they don’t have a storefront. They will be at a number of festivals this year. Check out their website for more information.
Not pictured are my spinning fiber purchases: Yak down, loose carded Buffalo down, and Chinese Camel down. Hopefully one of my partners in crime can help me remember the name of the place I purchased it.
I didn’t end up purchasing a lot, but they were all worthwhile items that I didn’t turn around the next day and discover that I had purchased fugly fug. All in all, a good weekend.

I spent yesterday with two friends at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival - what an awesome day! We drove up Friday night (and spent several hours in wicked traffic) and stayed in Columbia. We arrived at the Howard County Fairgrounds at 9 AM, and easily found a place to park the E-Mobile (Thanks again, Honey! It would have been hard-going without the truck.)
I made K and Ashley promise to not let me purchase anything for at least the first 20 minutes that we were there. I was good and I didn’t buy anything for at least an hour.
We did some fiber shopping, and met some woolly folks:

I wanted to bring them all home with me, but even though our lease doesn’t say anything about livestock, I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t like living in the confines of the balcony.
All in all, a great day. I’ll post photos of my loot later.

I was hoping to get this done in time to deliver at the end of April, but there is a long way to go. I haven’t measured yet, but I don’t think I’m even halfway - and that doesn’t even include the trim! Gaah!

There’s an additional 3-color repeat done that isn’t in the pic, but I still don’t think I’m halfway.
Stats:
Yarn: Several million miles of baby acrylic yarn from Michaels, purchased at least five years ago when I finished Sophie’s blanket.
Tools: F crochet hook
Pattern: Susan B’s Easy Ripple Afghan. A nice crochet pattern that can be adapted easily for any yarn/size.
Recipient: a secret
