Gardening Books for Kids

I’ve started to put together a list of gardening books for children. Here is my list so far. Some of these may be harder to find, but as of this posting date, they are available through Amazon.

If you have suggestions for or comments about this collection, please leave them in the comments.

  • My fave is not on your list – but I can't remember the title. It's a really cute story about an animal that tricks another animal. Here's the gist: he tells the other guy he'll have tops and the other gets the roots – which is not fair b/c the other guy got little hairy roots while the trickster gets the leaves, fruits, etc. So then he tells the other guy he can have the tops and he'll take the bottoms, and this time, he gets the onions, potatoes, carrots, etc. It's very cute and very educational. I'm sure you'll be able to find it. You have a wonderful list so far!

  • There are 3 of our favourites not on your list, so we thought we would share:

Sunflower Houses and Roots, Shoots, Buckets, and Boots by Sharon Lovejoy and Green Thumbs by Laurie Carlson. These are choc-a-block full of projects.

  • I have a two year old and a four year old boy and we almost always have "Busy in the Garden" from the library. It's a book of gardening poems and a favourite in our household. Another is A Gardener's Alphabet by Mary Azarian. There are others, too, but I can't seem to remember their titles! If they come to me, I'll be back.

  • Thanks all for the suggestions! I will be adding them to the list.
