E. coli Myths

I posted a comment on the Accidental Hedonist’s blog a couple of days ago, in response to one of the posts Kate wrote about the current Spinach/E. coli scare. In addition to her other posts on the Spinach Debacle (my term), this one is a good round up of what is going on. My comment to Kate’s post was essentially to point out that if we were sourcing things like spinach locally, there wouldn’t be so much confusion about what farm/processing plant the contaminated plants came from.

But that got me thinking… so I started looking for news articles about the current spinach fiasco. I found a ton of different articles about how so many stores have been pulling spinach – ALL forms of spinach — off the shelves, even if it was in something else that was canned, and you’d probably die from the preservatives long before you’d die of E. coli.

Wedding Dreams

I had my first wedding-related anxiety dream last night. I’m not sure I can survive a year of this!

Finding Corn

Several people have mentioned to me that they weren’t aware of how prevalent corn is in our daily lives. I tend to kind of brush it off and say “It’s in everything, you’d be amazed.” (Careful avoidance of pun) And really, you would be amazed if you looked at what you eat every day.

The Frog Turns into a Prince… Sort of.

It’s usually the end of the story where the frog turns into the prince and everyone lives happily ever after. We’re somewhere around the middle (assuming that the prince doesn’t turn back into a frog again) and the frog has turned into a prince!

Sock #1

Well, something of a princeling, maybe. It’s got some binding off issues, and it’s about 1/2 an inch too long. But it’s my first finished sock, and I’m damned proud! I’m planning to begin the prince’s better looking twin tonight!

Into the Frog Pond We Go!

KT has organized a frog-along. I had to join… the sock made me do it. The sock and the new sock pattern at Knitty. (It’s the surprise this issue.)

This:
Sock

turned into this:
Sock unraveled

About 2 hours later, it became a toe up sock. Or at least, it became a toe. It’s a very cool pattern, maybe partly because I’m new to sock knitting. In any case, things are going along swimmingly.

Housekeeping

In the spirit of the weekend, as we’re cleaning our apartment, I’m also doing some blog cleanup. If you haven’t already noticed, I’ve changed the directory of my blog, so it is now at the root of the domain. In other words, you no longer need to go to trueepicure.com/blog to read my blog, you just need to go to trueepicure.com. You’ll want to update any links to my site to reflect the change, including your news reader/aggregator.

I seemed to have misplaced the file that had all of my sidebar coding – at least for my rings, so I’ll be fixing that up tomorrow.

Otherwise, you shouldn’t notice any major differences. Hope to see you here again soon!
