Grilling the chic-ken!

Actually, I think it was steak, but it didn’t have enough vowels. Many apologies to Simon and Garfunkel for my co-opting their song.

I’m still weirded out by the fact that I live in DC-Land. It’s kind of strange driving, and looking to the left to check the lane, and noticing the Pentagon sitting there. Riding home from the Metro: Oh, hello, Washington Monument. You’re looking kind of pale today, is everything alright? On the freeway to go visit some friends: Mr. Lincoln, you’re looking quite dapper today. It’s really weird - but I love it.

I’m sure that I’ll get over the novelty of it, but I’m totally enjoying it for now. Growing up in NYC, I was somewhat immune to the novelty aspect of the landmarks. (Though I do get a thrill anytime I see one in a movie or in a picture) I hope I don’t get totally jaded living here.

Oh, and I learned what the 5th branch of the Armed Forces is! Do you know? Post a comment with all five by August 20th and you’ll be entered to win a prize. I’ll send one lucky (random) commenter some nifty DC schwag. Two limitations: you are NOT allowed to look it up, and you can’t be military. (Sorry Ashley) Scouts’ honor folks!

I’m disqualified since Rich is a Former Marine (even though I learned this growing up and impressed him that I knew it in our early dating days) so I will keep my lips sealed ;-)

Hmmmm…ok, I’ll guess. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, National Guard? I’m probably wrong.

It is so weird to live somewhere different. After years in Florida, it was so strange to live here. I kept wondering when I was going home. Now, I don’t want to live anywhere else.

Yeah - I would have said the fifth branch would be the Coast Guard too! So that would be Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force, & the Coast Guard.

    Sounds good to me!

    Glad you are enjoying DC!!!

I don’t know if I can stand not looking it up. But I’ll guess and then look it up. So maybe it is the Coast Guard, but something in my gut says that is too easy and I should guess the Executive Branch of the Government. Don’t laugh too hard, even if my guess is totally ridiculous…

I remember waving at the Saguaros every time I passed then when I first moved to Phoenix. It’s that fresh-city feeling and I hope you keep it for a long time. Say Hi to Lincoln for me.

Let’s see, five branches… I’ll say oak, elm, maple, birch, and walnut. Or, how about executive, legislative, and judicial. Oh, wait, that’s only three. (Do I get bonus points for not cheating from Sarah and Alison’s answers?)
