Day 2

No, you didn’t miss “Day 1″. We didn’t get out on Monday as planned. We left kind of late in the morning on Tuesday, and made it to Albuquerque last night. I didn’t have time to get out the computer before we left.

Today we started out from ABQ, continuing to head east on I-40. Did you know that it is the 50th Anniversary of the Interstate System? I don’t know that there is a concerted effort to publicize such a thing – I only happen to know because I work with USDOT/FHWA (not for them, just with them).

The Dwight D. Eisenhower System of Interstate and Defense Highways was initiated on June 29, 1956, which means that tomorrow is the actual anniversary date. It seems sort of appropriate that we’re using the Interstate during the anniversary week. :)

Thanks to everyone for your good wishes on the engagement and on our move. I feel bad that I haven’t had time to reply to everyone individually. Between moving and my blog upgrade that hosed the comment email function, it’s been kind of hard. I hope you know that I/we appreciate all of the love!

  • Hey there – if you are driving through Georgia…. you are more than welcome to a) stay here or even b) stop by for a meal…. let me know!

    Safe travels!

  • Sounds like things are a little wet in DC. Probably a good thing to leave a day later, eh? Thanks for pointing out the anniversary of the interstate system. Just think how different our lives would be without such a thing. Happy driving!

  • Late starts are only to be expected on a move like this. Just keep all 4 wheels on your truck and you're ahead of the game.

Mel's right, maybe DC will have a chance to dry out a bit before you arrive.

  • I miss you already! Are you pulling a small ark behind the Santa Fe?

  • I'm glad to hear the drive is going well!

  • I cant say I'm surprised that you didnt get out until Tuesday. I am glad that you didnt rush it though. oh, and I just have to tell you.. on our drive back home sunday nite from your place, Colby says "that was fun, Mom. Eva and Ed are cool." :) as if moving can be fun! I guess it just says a lot for shrink-wrap!

Oh yes, the great Interstate anniversary! Did you see the ADOT article on it…

I'll have to send you an email with all the latest office gossip.. it just never stops, I tell ya! oh, and I was in a meeting with Hugh Louch yesterday and he made some flippant comment to me about "I'll have Eva call you on that." I gave him the evil eye! :) Anyhow, he said he heard through the grapevine that you had accepted.. if that's true – congrats!

Tell Ed we all say hi and I hope you are taking lots of pics during this adventure!

  • Hey Chickie,

I can't believe you are updating this during your travels. Obess much??? I miss you already. I guess I will just have to travel down to Phoenix and drag Jami to Rita's!!

    Keep safe.
