C is for…

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:57 pm by trueepicure

Citrus! Grown in my very own backyard. I neglect it too often, give the trees water and food way too infrequently, and yet the trees still produce great fruit. Maybe the trees like the way I talk to them…

Shown here are some of the oranges and grapefruit that I picked tonight. Two quarts of grapefruit juice, and just the one glass of orange for now. (I wanted to make sure the oranges tasted good.)

There is nothing better than a fresh squeezed citrus fruit. I can’t wait for the lemons to produce this year (they did last year, but a storm got the lemons. :( )!

Packing Lunch

Posted in Uncategorized at 4:30 pm by trueepicure

So, in the continuous quest to avoid corn, I’m finding that I have gotten into a lunch rut. I either eat out at one of the 3 places I know is safe, I bring my lunch of leftovers, or I do cheese and crackers with fruit.

Help! I need some new ideas! Please post your comments on what *you* bring to work. I’m open to any suggestions, even ones that aren’t corn-free - so don’t worry about that. I will post a round- up after a bit (with and without corn-free alterations), and I’ll keep it updated if it seems like people are interested. This is your opportunity to de-lurk and do a good deed for a person in need. ;)

If you don’t want to comment on the blog or your idea is long enough to warrant an email, feel free to email me at trueepicure [at] gmail [dot] com or at my personal email (if you normally use that one).

Legislating Us Back to the 1950s

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:22 pm by trueepicure

Aren’t we supposed to be moving forward? Isn’t society supposed to become more open and tolerant over the years? Aren’t we supposed to have broken through the glass ceiling, instead of crashing through the concrete floor.

South Dakota has passed legislation that makes abortion illegal except in cases where the mother might be at a great health risk. I won’t get into the fact that they are only considering physical health and not mental health. As far as I know, it still needs the governor’s approval, but he has apparently made statements that he plans to approve the legislation.

Kanab, Utah has passed Resolution 1-1-06R, which codifies the definition of “family”. And to make it worse, they call it “natural family”.

An Italian court has decided that a man who raped his stepdaughter should get a lighter sentence because she wasn’t a virgin. Even Mussolini’s grand-daughter thinks it’s outrageous.

So what’s next? Are we going to start Segregation again?
