Here’s what I have after 2 1/2 days:

The bottom part is cotton (Garn Studio Muskat), which will be the lining so whomever wears this will not get an itchy forehead from the wool. I’m quite impressed with this design element.

8 rows of the chart complete. This is pretty fun stuff!

Written by the Yarn Harlot
I, a knitter of able hands and quick wits, to hereby swear that over the course of these Olympics I will uphold the highest standard of knitterly excellence.
I will be deft of hand and sure of pattern, I will overcome troubles of yarn overs and misplaced decreases. I will use the gifts of intelligence and persistence (as well as caffeine and chocolate) and I will execute my art to the highest form, carrying with me the hope for excellence known to every knitter.
I strive to win. To do my best, and to approach the needles with my own best effort in mind, without comparing myself to my fellow knitters, for they have challenges unique to them.
While I engage in this pursuit of excellence and my own personal, individual best, I also swear that I will continue to engage with my family in conversation, care for my pets, speak kindly with those who would ask me to do something other than knit, and above all, above every stitch thrown or picked, above every cable, every heel stitch, every change of colour, I swear this:
That I will remember that this is not the real Olympics, that I’m supposed to be having fun and that my happiness and self-worth ride not on my success….
but on my trying.
Go Team Arizona!

Yeah, I know, for a geography dork, it took me a while to get on the band wagon. Actually, I’ve been a Frappr member for a while, but I didn’t just want to be one of the crowd… well, I couldn’t be the ONLY one with out a Frappr Map. So, I bring you:

Amaryllis.

I love Amaryllis. My mom bought me the red one for my birthday a couple of years ago. It bloomed in the house and then died back. I almost tossed it, but I thought better of it and planted it outside. Now I have a wonderful re-blooming bright red, almost hurts to look at it, reminder of my mom.
And now I have a slight addiction to Amaryllis:

They do well here. You can plant them in the ground, or in pots, and they seem to thrive. They prefer regular water, but at my house, that doesn’t really happen, and they seem to be perfectly happy.

So, you’re a knitting/crocheting olympian, and you live in Arizona. Be a member of Team Arizona! No special applications, just download the button below (or make your own that is better than mine - not too hard, I imagine) and put it on your own blog. Post a comment so we know who you are, and bask in the glow of being a fiber lovin’ ‘Zonie. Oh wait, that’s sweat, not glow.
And if you are picture happy like I am, feel free to join the Fiber Olympic Flickr Group!

About knitwear being misrepresented in animation:
Knitwear in Film

Okay, so here’s my crapulous photo of my swatch for the Knitting Olympics:

(Remind me not to edit things in Picasa before I upload to Flickr. Bad, bad, bad.)
Specifics: Bea Ellis’ ‘Traditional’ hat. Dale of Norway’s Helio yarn in colors 020 (natural) and 007 (grey heather). I don’t know why I decided to knit the hat instead of the headband, since I don’t really wear hats… oh well, it’s all about the process, right? Please ignore the mistakes that are glaringly obvious.
I now understand why stranded knitting is done in the round - purling with two colors SUCKS. But stranded knitting is rather fun, and I am very much looking forward to knitting the hat.
We should have a Team Arizona, and all fiber fetishists stitching (or spinning) should be able to join.

From an email I received today: “Arizona Together is the campaign to protect the rights of unmarried couples in Arizona, and to defeat the so-called “Protect Marriage Arizona” Amendment [to the Arizona State Constitution] which would ban gay marriage as well as outlaw ALL gay and straight domestic partnership benefits in Arizona.
If this amendment passes, families and children would lose their health insurance benefits, hospital visitations and the power to make medical decisions in cases of emergency. The amendment would nullify existing domestic partnership health benefits in cities like Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe and Tucson that offer them, and would alter the Arizona Constitution to define marriage as one man/one woman. Arizonans may not all agree on gay marriage, but we can agree that this amendment goes TOO FAR.”
Last time I checked, government wasn’t supposed to be about forcing a religious agenda on private citizens, and it DEFINTELY isn’t supposed to be discriminating against people based on a personal characteristic or a lifestyle choice. How is it that the government gets to decide what marriage is and who gets to do it? If government were to deny someone benefits based on race or ethnicity, the world would be up in arms.
So, if you are interested in supporting the cause, you can go to their website to add your name as someone who endorses America Together’s work, and opposes the “Protect Marriage Arizona” Amendment.
