Beaded Knitting

I’m not usually one for impractical knits, but I saw the Mrs. Beaton wristlets at the Knitty site, and I thought they would be a fun addition to my wardrobe. I have crocheted with beads before, but I haven’t knitted with beads yet. To be honest, the idea of stringing hundreds of beads was a little bit sickening.

I’m not exactly sure how I found this blog, but here’s a great way to add beads into knitting – and it’s very similar to what I have done with crochet!

Now, to decide what colors…

Last Day of the Raffle!

Don’t forget to make your donation and let me know that you did. More fun prize pictures tonight!

Sip for the Cure

Check out the Republic of Tea’s website for items you can buy that benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

It used to be that they brought out the Pink Grapefruit Green Tea during October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month), but now they have a whole line of teas that are good for you, potentially prevent cancers of all types (though I make NO statements about the validity of this claim), and generate funds for a good cause.

Go. Drink. Be well.

Bowling for the Cure?

Bowl for the Cure is a year-round fund-raising and breast cancer awareness initiative by USBC, in partnership with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. One group in Idaho has raised over $5000!

I suck at bowling, but it might be fun to do it for a good cause. Anyone else interested?

Mo’ Money!

It’s about damned time!

I am choosing not to discuss the fact that mandatory retirement payments are going up, and that our health insurance is bound to go up, and the fact that we are paid waaaay below market. I’m just happy that the legislation got signed, and we’ll be making an extra $65 a pay period… okay, “happy’ isn’t quite the right word, but you get the point.

More Prizes

There are more prizes for the raffle. I’m not posting them in any particular order…

Two balls of Knit Picks Get Away, 3 stitch holders, a 2006 planner and a package of knitting notecards from Sarah.

Another Prize

Gorey Stories

I love Edward Gorey. I wish he were still around.

But he’s not, so in his honor, I leave you with the results of this Quizilla Quiz (which I wouldn’t have taken, except that I had to after seeing it on Stacey’s blog):

*Slosh*
You will sink in a mire. You like to think you’re

normal, but deep down you really just want to

strip off your clothes and roll around in

chicken fat.

What horrible Edward Gorey Death will you die?

Don’t Call Me Crazy…

I already know I am. I joined the Knitting Olympics. I am going to knit this lovely Norwegian-style hat. Somehow I managed to not be my usual dopey self, and I actually ordered the kit from Bea Ellis today, the day before they all went on vacation. Sometimes I amaze myself!

All I can say, is that my Norse ancestors had better be helping me out with this one. I’m going to need all the help I can get. Do you think that knitting in your ancestral method is hereditary? I really hope so! Great-great-grandpa Ole and Great-great-grandma Galina will be proud!

This led me to wonder if Jamaicans have a tradition of knitting or another particular textile tradition. That I can tell, no. I couldn’t find anything on the web either. Any thoughts on the matter?

Fiber, Fiber, Everywhere!

So, now that I spin, am I destined to find fiber in everthing in my house? The peanut butter sandwich I was eating this morning had a wool fiber hanging off of it.* Bleh!

*YES, I did remove it before eating – for those of you who were wondering.
