Curly Girls

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:51 pm by trueepicure

As promised, a link to my favorite hair site, Naturally Curly.

I’m not promising overnight success in being comfortable with your hair - that’s an ongoing process for everyone, I think. But, it is a supportive environment for curlies that I’ve never seen before.

I think I mentioned that not all of the forums are “kid safe” but people are pretty good about indicating when things aren’t safe. And, you can always set your filtering software to limit access to the forums. There is lots of information about products, hair types, and just general commiseration about being curly in a non-curly world.

You’ll find information on specific hair types; articles for teens; etc. Plus, added bonus for curlies and non-curlies alike: facts about what is in your hair/makeup/body products that you never knew about.

Check it out!

A strange and tragic day.

Today is the 10th Anniversary of the Oklahoma City Bombing. Do not forget that it can happen here and by one of our own.

It’s hard to imagine the rage and the hate that could make someone do this. I kind of wish that the media weren’t playing this up so much, because my brain starts to hurt when I think about what happened and why. At the same time, I’m glad that it gets brought up again and again, so we remember that the possibility exists.

I wish that I felt like something was going to happen that would make it impossible for something like this to happen again - I mean something positive that would change our country/the world for the better. I’m sad that nothing has changed.

Purple Plush

Sounds like a frou frou drink of some sort. But really it’s a cute teddy bear made out of super fuzzy yarn from Berroco:

Cute, eh?

Betting on the Pope?

Posted in Uncategorized at 1:04 pm by trueepicure

I think it’s a little bit disturbing that people are making bets on who will become the new Pope. I’m not Catholic and I’m not particularly religions, but this seems wrong somehow.

Fiber Arts Avengers

Posted in Uncategorized at 11:56 am by trueepicure

Some great fiber folks who are helping to raise money for the 3-Day can be found at Fiber Arts Avengers. If I understand the whole thing correctly, Jesse is the one walking, and she has a great group of people helping her to raise money. I found the FAA through Knit Spiral. which is another blog that I enjoy reading.

Here’s to the Avengers!!

A Decision on the Divine Scarf

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:13 am by trueepicure

I’m glad that Downward-Dog Knitting Blog blogged about this. I made the same pattern(s), hat first, and I was trying to decide what to do. I have an extra ball of the yarn, but I wasn’t thrilled about continuing on for the complete 65 inches or whatever it is. I guess I was feeling like I should make it the full length, but I really hadn’t been in the mood to join another ball and keep going - especially since the pattern is ultra-repetitive and boring. So the Divine Scarf in Richest Rose will remain “as is”, with the exception of binding off and weaving in the ends.

It really is pretty fabulous though, and I’ll be sad to see it go. :D

Books from the Library

Posted in Uncategorized at 4:16 pm by trueepicure

So, I have some books out from the library…

I Capture the Castle and some book about the Austro-Hungarian Empire that has a lot of pages in it. I had another book out, The Eyre Affair, but I had to take it back after getting halfway through it. “Why,” you ask? Well, I was afraid that I might get infected with some blood-borne pathogen. “Uuuuuh?!” Yep, you read that correctly. Blood-borne pathogen.

I was mid-way through the book and I turned the page, and their were blood spots on the page. At first I wasn’t sure what it was, and I had convinced myself that it was chocolate or something. But, when the pages were stuck together and I turned the next one, and it was very obvious what it was, I put the book down.

I took it back to the library and told them what had happened. The clerk shook his head and said: “Well, at least it isn’t soaked in blood.” (EEEEWWWW!) He said that he has seen much worse than what I was showing him, but that it was a good idea to turn the book in. Uh… yeah.

I will admit that I have some issues about library books to begin with. Sometimes they are stinky from being around smokers, and sometimes they just smell odd. It kind of makes a person wonder. I hope the next book I open doesn’t have something gross in it, because I don’t think I can take much more of that.

More Training

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:03 pm by trueepicure

I went to my first group Training Walk tonight. I felt like I needed to do something more structured, and my neighborhood is getting sort of boring. I met a couple of really nice women, and had a chance to get to know a different neighborhood. Whoo hoo!

In other, related news, I am now an official 3-Day Walk Training Walk Leader! I will be focusing my attention on Tempe since there isn’t already a group. If you’re interested in participating, feel free to email me. You do not need to be a 3-Day Walker, but there are some critera you must meet (age minimum of 16/18 without a parent or guardian, things not to bring with you, etc). Please contact me at 3daywalk at trueepicure dot com (you know the drill) and let me know if you are interested.
