Mmmm… interesting story I found on Slashdot. Interesting to techno-transpo-geography geeks and not-so-nerdy folk as well. ;D

I seriously have to question the newscast on Channel 12 at 10. I usually watch the news after my television shows are over. I normally just watch the newscast on whichever channel I happen to already be watching.
Last week I was watching something, and I’m pretty sure that it was Kevin Kennedy on Channel 12. He was doing a story on a 40-year old Valley housewife who decided with her husband that she was going to pose for Playboy. Reporter Kennedy did the story in all seriousness, and basically was saying that it was so great and wonderful that this woman was doing the Playboy shoot. I got the feeling that the news report was essentially saying that more women should do this. WTF?! Is that really news? Is this news? Is it even a human interest story?
… as much as they did yesterday. Actually, I feel pretty good for having walked so long yesterday. Thanks to the support of my teammates, friends, and a good dose of pasta and chicken last night, I’m feeling pretty good.
We walked around southern Chandler, just north of Sun Lakes. From looking at the map, we walked around and around Chandler, though being ignorant of the area, it didn’t seem like we were walking in circles.
After we were done, I headed up to Maccaroni Grill for some Penne with tomato cream sauce and grilled chicken. I did takeout full-on and had salad, a Coke (no lime this time
). With the last of the Thin Mints
for dessert, it was a quality meal at home in front of the television. I honestly don’t remember what I was watching though. I think I must have been too tired, because all I know is that I was not watching Empire Strikes Back (LOVE the movie, can’t stand the commercials).
By the way, the manager at MG said that they might be willing to sponsor me if I bring a letter by! Whoo hoo!
I walked 10 miles today (give or take since we goofed a bit on the directions). I’m going to take some Advil and I’m going to bed. Um, after I finish this row of Clapotis.
I got about 95% of the bear finished on Thursday night:

It looks weirdly like a person without the ears.
I wish that the pattern was written better. It doesn’t read row by row, it just tells you how many rows to do and then expects you to guess what row you should be on. I’m worried that the back side isn’t going to match. *sigh*
I love the way the yarn feels, but it is frustrating not being sure what row you are on, and not being able to tell if you are on the right or wrong side.
Oh well. I’m sure it will be cute when it’s done.
A friend sent this to me:

“This woman is walking the World for Breast Cancer. Please pass her on so that she can reach her destination. Say a prayer for all those who are affected by this terrible disease. She’s walking around the world — via e-mail!! Pass it on so she can get there!”
Highly appropriate, don’t you think?
A friend forwarded this article to me.
All I can say is that I am not surprised that this worked. Academia is a strange and bizarre place. Stranger things have happened.
Well, I guess I’d better get crackin’ on a baby shower gift (plush teddy bear?). We just got an announcement at work that we are doing a shower for a co-worker on May 5th. I guess Clapotis will have to sit on the sidelines for a bit.
