How Does My Garden Grow?

I haven’t posted much about my garden lately. I guess it’s for a variety of reasons, which I will spare all of you from hearing. Mainly, I think I’ve been a bit depressed about the current status of the garden which is really much more of a weed farm than anything else. It’s looking pretty good lately, if I may say so myself.

Last night I was trying to get some plants into the ground before they completely baked in their pots. They tend to get a little bit dried out in their little black nursery pots. I only got two or three into the ground because I kept getting sidetracked by weeds and trying not to step on seedlings with my size 9s. An older couple from the neighborhood was walking by with their dog, and the wife stopped and was kind of staring at the yard. I was about to walk into the house because I wasn’t really paying attention to them – I see them walking their dog fairly frequently.

“We have been enjoying your yard,” she said. I was kind of shocked, but I recovered quickly and thanked her. “I love the lupine, it’s beautiful,” She continued. I agreed with her and said something about the purply-blue color that is basically indescribable (yes, that is how it is spelled. I checked. ;) ).

We chatted for a few minutes and her husband interjected something about how I needed some african daisies (Dimorphotheca sinuata). God, I HATE those things. Okay, I lie, I don’t actually hate them. It’s hard to hate something that is that cheery. However, I really don’t want them in my yard. As it is, the neighbor two houses down shares enough of them with me unwittingly. They reseed like mad and the birds love to eat them and, urm, deposit the seeds in other yards.

It was really nice to hear that other people are enjoying my yard too, weeds and all.
