Lost Items

-River Malcolm (tinywords.com)

I see things lying in the middle of the street sometimes. A lost shoe, a hat, what looks like part of a blanket, etc. I always wonder why they are there and what the story behind the item is. Does the shoe have a mate? Did the person who lost the hat miss it? Did they have another hat? Was it their favorite hat/shoe/toy?

Help Some Dogs

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:59 am by

From a friend of mine who volunteers with The Center for Animal Rescue and Adoption:

“The Pet Sanctuary in Kingman, Arizona which
has been operating for 9 years was home to 100 dogs,
has lost it’s permit and all the dogs
need to find a place to go before April 30 or they
will most likely be euthanized. We know there are
plenty of dogs in need in our own county that we are
concentrating on, but we feel this is an extreme
situation and the more people that know about these
Kingman dogs, the better chance they have of
surviving. Below is a link with photos of the dogs
that need homes or foster homes. Please let any of
your friends, family, or coworkers know about these
dogs in need. Maybe one will be just the dog they’re
looking for to join their family.

It is an overwhelming situation, but instead of feeling
helpless we need to remember that when it comes to
saving lives we need to stay focused on “one animal
at a time”. If this email results in just one of
these 100 dogs finding a safe haven it will be well
worthwhile.”

Potential Project…

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:17 am by

I love this scarf!

I don’t think it would have the same effect in the color of Manos that I am lusting after, which I believe is #36, but maybe I’ll just have to try it in a solid and a variegated version.

Fiber Updates

Posted in Uncategorized at 11:19 pm by

One more increase section to go on Clapotis. I’m loving this pattern. I’ve got the rhythm down and I am rocking along on it. I wonder what it must be like to be Kate Gilbert and know that eight bazillion people are all using your pattern?

The body of the little crocheted purse is done. Beading has commenced. Pictures when I am not exhausted.

Need to find a new project for the bus (for now, I will be toting the Clap). Suggestions are welcome (the project must be fairly small, or at least start out that way).

Carry on.

How Does My Garden Grow?

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:34 pm by

I haven’t posted much about my garden lately. I guess it’s for a variety of reasons, which I will spare all of you from hearing. Mainly, I think I’ve been a bit depressed about the current status of the garden which is really much more of a weed farm than anything else. It’s looking pretty good lately, if I may say so myself.

Last night I was trying to get some plants into the ground before they completely baked in their pots. They tend to get a little bit dried out in their little black nursery pots. I only got two or three into the ground because I kept getting sidetracked by weeds and trying not to step on seedlings with my size 9s. An older couple from the neighborhood was walking by with their dog, and the wife stopped and was kind of staring at the yard. I was about to walk into the house because I wasn’t really paying attention to them - I see them walking their dog fairly frequently.

“We have been enjoying your yard,” she said. I was kind of shocked, but I recovered quickly and thanked her. “I love the lupine, it’s beautiful,” She continued. I agreed with her and said something about the purply-blue color that is basically indescribable (yes, that is how it is spelled. I checked. ;)).

We chatted for a few minutes and her husband interjected something about how I needed some african daisies (Dimorphotheca sinuata). God, I HATE those things. Okay, I lie, I don’t actually hate them. It’s hard to hate something that is that cheery. However, I really don’t want them in my yard. As it is, the neighbor two houses down shares enough of them with me unwittingly. They reseed like mad and the birds love to eat them and, urm, deposit the seeds in other yards.

It was really nice to hear that other people are enjoying my yard too, weeds and all.

Tea

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:03 am by

I mentioned in a previous post about Hampstead’s Organic Ginger Green tea. All I can say about this tea, is: “eh.” It’s okay, kind of gingery smelling, but not gingery tasting. Then again, it doesn’t have that weird seaweedy green tea taste that can happen sometimes. Overall, I’d give it a 3 out of 10.

Weekend stuff

Posted in Uncategorized at 6:33 pm by

It’s been a busy weekend. A productive one so far, with lots of shopping loot.

I went to Changing Hands on Friday to pick this up :

At Knits End

Which precipitated the purchase of:

(for K1R2) and The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency (which I currently don’t have a picture of because the cover is too light and I’m too lazy to figure out the lighting).

I bought some SWT Oasis after discovering that I have become a yarn snob. I just couldn’t bear to use the acrylic that I bought at CraftMart the other day. I’m going to have to take it back now - well, at least the skeins that I didn’t use. The oasis is being used for this:

Little Bag
Which will become a little bag to go with the Triangle Scarf (which I still need to block and take pictures of).

And the Cotton Twist decided that it didn’t want to be a shell. It’s heart’s desire was to become…

Clapotis

Clapotis!

I needed to put a lifeline in at the beginning, because I thought I was having problems. Which turned out not to be the case, but I keep adding the “lifeline” because it keeps me from having to keep track of which repeat I am on.

She’s Crafty

Crafty

I am so often in awe of people who craft. I craft too, but I am always highly self-critical and therefore I don’t consider myself a crafter. I often see myself as an interloper into a world of incredibly talented, and amazing people. Who am I to think that I can even hope to achieve the success of all of these people around me? Well, like my mom says, it takes time.

I suppose partly I am a bit extra critical of myself lately, since I seem to not be able make things turn out the way I want to. I’m working on two knitting projects that just aren’t working the way I had hoped. I am completely frustrated with this Stellina shawl I am working on. The pattern is so ridiculously simple, and yet I’ve had to frog the thing twice already. I don’t like the way my boatneck shell is turning out, and I’ll probably frog that.

On the up side, my yard is starting to look nice. I’m getting a handle on the weeds, and I’ve put in some more plants. I’ll have to pull out the wildflowers in a couple of months (hopefully they’ll hang on long enough for my mom to see) because they will start looking crappy, but at least for now they look quite nice.
