Near Death Experience #2

This is ridiculous! Can’t a person walk along the street without fear looming at every intersection? Or is this too much to ask in this day and age?

I was walking home from the bus (from Mill Ave for my walking exercise today) and as I am trying to cross Rural Road (it is far from rural for those of you living in other cities/states), a pickup truck whose driver was on his phone decides to start turning the corner - from a complete stop - as I am crossing the street.

Being who I am, I immediately think that I am doing something wrong, even when I know that I am completely not at fault. If you are stopped at an intersection, you stay stopped until you know that the way is clear. I have the right of way as a pedestrian, and you need to wait until I am out of your way before you proceed. Oh, that’s right. You couldn’t see me because you were paying attention to the conversation you were having with the person on the phone.

Grrr.
