How Many Steps?

Posted in Uncategorized at 4:16 pm by

I figured out today that to walk 60 miles, I will have to take approximately 127,300 steps. Considering that I am averaging about 5,000 so far, I have a ways to go. My goal for the first month (February 12th) is 10,000 steps. 10,000 steps is just under 5 miles.

I am participating in a 5K walk next weekend, so that will get me to 3.1 miles (which is just a bit more than the walk to the post office ~2.7 miles). I’ll still have to do 1.9 more to get to my goal that day. No problem, I have to go to the post office anyway.

I suppose I should start to figure out good routes to get me up to my goal. I wonder how many steps it is to ASU?

Divine Hat

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:48 am by

The Divine Hat is coming along. I have 9 out of 11 inches done before I start the decreases. I have to remember to take pictures.

Here is a photo of the afghan I did for JKD:

It’s a lot less wavy in person. I’m not sure why it looks like that in the photo, but I’ve seen a number of other bloggers say that they have the same problem.

On the advice of MAC, I purchased Weekend Knitting. I’ve found the shawl that I want to make… it is so lovely and soft looking. Now I just have to find the time to do it. And then there are the striped socks… and the pillows… and the market bag… *sigh*

A Day of Destruction

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:37 am by

Well, it could be a whole lot worse. But, I’m still kind of bummed. We had some wicked hail today , along with a grand old thunder and lightening storm. I was up in Cave Creek, while my poor wildflowers were battered and bruised by the pea-sized hail:

Everyone looks so sad and broken. I hope that once things start to dry out, they’ll perk up a bit.

Obsessed

So, now that I am back to being Crafty Smurf, I find myself unable to concentrate on anything but: yarn and needles and where to get what and who is doing what on their blog and I wish I could find the time to do oh yeah I have to go buy some #11 needles for that project that I haven’t started because I am busy fundraising for…

Okay, so you get the picture. I am over-extending myself on everything. I need to become independently wealth REALLY soon, so I can quit my job and focus on all of the other stuff. :)

4 inches done on the Divine Hat. I was afraid I was going to have to rip half of it out this morning because somehow the two sides got connected. Turns out I just did a yo where I wasn’t supposed to. I had to rip one row out and I found the problem on the 4th stitch. Phew!

My Raffle Item

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:45 pm by

I’m planning to make this, very pink hat for the Knit 1 Walk 3 raffle (to raise money for the 3-Day): Patons Divine Hat
(borrowed with humility from patonsyarn.com; image located on my server)

It looks kind of sketch in the picture, but I’m convinced that it is going to be really nice. The yarn just doesn’t look anything like the picture. It is so soft and fuzzy and pink, and it might even convince me to banish the pink phobia.

Day 270

I went to yoga for the first time in a while. I did a really nice “Gentle” class at A Desert Song. Heidi was really nice and very helpful with getting aligned. I can’t wait until I get to take another class with Mary Beth.

Dumb School

I find it interesting that, after sitting untouched since August of 2004, I received my approved Program of Study today.

I went to campus last Friday to pick up my books for this semester and to apply for graduation in May (Whoo Hoo!). I went to the Graduate College who told me to go to the Cashier and pay my fee. The Cashier’s Office told me that after paying my fee, I needed to fill out a graduation survey and then head over to the Graduation Office to finalize my graduation “stuff”. So I took the survey and headed over to the Graduation Office.

Mallomars

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:40 am by

On Saturday I had this intense craving for Mallomars. I don’t know what set it off, specifically, but the delight I had in finding a leftover box at my mom’s house over the holidays must have sparked a latent desire for the confection. There is something about the combination of chocolate, marshmallow, and graham crackers that takes me back to the days of campfires and s’mores.

I went to three different grocery stores to find Mallomars, and I had the unpleasant fortune to discover that there seem to be no Mallomars anywhere in my neighborhood. The closest thing I could find was the Nabisco Pinwheels, which are a similar confection by the same company, with a chocolate cookie instead of the graham cracker for the base. While the average person might think that this would be acceptable, I do not. The chocolate cookie upsets the balance of the confection, and it creates a different texture combination. There is something about the salty tang of the graham cracker that completes the confection.

After doing a Google search, it appears that I am destined to only have Mallomars when I go home, and only if it is between October and April. According to a variety of sources, including Gersh Kuntzman’s article on Newsweek Online, Nabisco doesn’t distribute Mallomars much outside of the East Coast. If I can’t find them out here, I am going to have to incite protest against these insular marketing practices!
