In Memoriam: Julia Child; 1912-2004

There just wasn’t anyone like Julia Child. I grew up watching her cook on PBS, thanks to my parents who wouldn’t let me watch broadcast television until I was 10. Afternoon television consisted of Sesame Street, the Electric Company, and the French Chef. This explains a lot about my life.

Mrs. Child met her husband while working for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the intelligence agency that preceded the CIA. No, she wasn’t a secretary, she managed an office and ran operations. She was a real, live Charlie’s Angel – but better!!

You know those annoying braclets/bumper stickers that say WWJD? You *thought* the “J” was for Jesus. In reality (mine, at least) the ”J” stands for Julia!
